Rapallo “Merger!” A Japanese City Pop and Yacht Rock inspo LP from our kings from Canada. Merger their debut LP came out in October 2024 and quickly became a tik tok, yacht forum cult classic. (we are now in said cult) Slap bass, sleazy guitars, and frenetic synthesizers provide the perfect and world building that feels like you’ve made it in the 80’s in all the right ways. These lyrics are wild in their world building. A tech billionaire seeks spiritual oblivion; an architect builds the Versailles of roadside attractions; a failed actor loses himself in a bardo of surreal and never-ending auditions. These lyrical vignettes reveal an album that satirizes desire in an age of instant gratification, and legacy in a culture of shallow self-mythology.
