This weekend I had the opportunity to participate in my first wood firing. I’m excited to share my results here. For those who are unfamiliar, wood firing is a slow, hands-on ceramics process where pieces are loaded into a kiln and fired with wood for many hours. As the fire burns, ash moves through the kiln and naturally settles on the pottery, creating unique colors, textures, and surfaces that can’t be fully predicted or repeated. My pieces had no glaze placed on the outside. Each finished piece emerges as a work of art, shaped by fire and chance in a way that can never be replicated.
