Ministry of Education Hails Lumai Fumbelo’s Exchange to Ghana as Zambia Prepares to Host Reciprocal Visit

A Zambian, Grade 12 pupil of David Kaunda National STEM Secondary School, Lumai Fumbelo has returned home from a two-week educational exchange in Ghana, with the Ministry of Education commending him for representing Zambia with "honour, discipline, and excellence."

Speaking on Sunday, 5th July 2026 at his arrival, Ministry of Education Director of Secondary Education, Yvonne Chulu, representing Permanent Secretary Dr. Kelvin Mambwe, said the government was proud of Lumai and impressed with the High Schools Africa programme. The initiative, championed by Ghanaian Pan-Africanist, Goshers, seeks to promote unity, cultural understanding, and academic collaboration among young Africans.

Lumai spent one week at the prestigious Mfantsipim School, experiencing Ghana’s education system, and another week exploring the country’s tourism and culture. During an interview with Kalemba, Lumai expressed that carrying the responsibility of representing Zambia was "a heavy weight," especially as it was his first time traveling without his parents.

"It was quite the experience. I really feel like I didn't represent as well as I wanted to, but I really did try, and hopefully I met the standards and expectations that everyone expected of me," Lumai told Kalemba.

Lumai expressed his gratitude to Goshers, members of the public who voted for him, ministries, officials, and his family for making the opportunity possible. His father, Ben Fumbelo, described the programme as "life-changing" and expressed gratitude to all involved.

Ms. Chulu said the exchange programme was exposing African learners to different education systems and cultures while inspiring others to "dream bigger." She added that the ministry hopes the organizers will facilitate a reciprocal visit by a Ghanaian student to Zambia once arrangements are concluded.

The government of Zambia said that, such initiatives help foster sustainable development and pan-African integration through education.

Obama Presidential Center Opens in Chicago, Amplifying Hope, Civic Education, and Global Partnership

Former US President, Barack Obama opened his presidential center in Chicago, the city that launched his journey to the White House as the United States’ first Black president.

Officially opened to the public on Friday, June 19, the 19-acre Obama Presidential Center becomes the 17th Presidential Library in the U.S. It preserves public access to records and artifacts of shared history. This is a key to expanding access to knowledge, culture, and civic education beyond traditional centers of power.

In attendance were Former Presidents like Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Malia and Sasha Obama joined their parents during the unveiling.

The opening ceremony honored Obama’s legacy with a star-studded lineup reflecting global partnership and cultural exchange. Performers included Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Bruce Springsteen, Nigeria’s Tems, Common, Marc Anthony, and Christina Aguilera. Their presence underscored how partnerships across borders, generations, and genres can amplify messages of unity and progress.

Americans describes the Center as “a new home for hope, change, and civic education” on Chicago’s South Side. It functions as a community hub, educational facility, and museum commemorating the legacy of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

“The Obama Center tells the story of eight years of progress, and is a stirring reminder of the power — and responsibility — we have as citizens to shape a better future,” said President Bill Clinton.
