Here's where this one begins.

We asked the founder of KC Book Beat to tell us the story behind KC Nerd Fest.

She started telling us that it was in memory of her step-father.

He was an avid reader who loved all things nerdy. Books. Comics. Games. The kind of person who never outgrew being excited about the things he loved.

When KC Book Beat created KC Nerd Fest in 2024, it wasn't just about putting on another event. It was a way to honor someone who believed stories, imagination, and a little bit of nerdiness made life better.

We have a feeling he'd fit right in.

MCPL is seeking authors in the greater Kansas City area to participate in our first Fantasy GenreCon Author Fair, which will be held at the Woodneath Library Center Auditorium on August 8. Applications will be accepted until July 13! Get more information: mymcpl.org/GenreCon

What's better than reading? Encouraging our youth to read!

These girls have discovered what we all already knew: books are AMAZING!!! Help them cultivate that newfound love by donating gently used or even new books for them to devour!
