Happy 4th of July weekend from all of us at IFD.
Please, celebrate safely.

Today, IFD Pumper 1 personnel had the opportunity to visit with children about fire safety, demonstrate gear and read a story during "Community Heroes Storytime". Thank you, Mid-continent Public Library for inviting us!
Sparklers burn at nearly 2,000 degrees, hot enough to melt some metals. In this video, Chief Walker demonstrates why fireworks deserve your full attention.
If you're using fireworks this Fourth of July, keep water nearby, never relight a firework that doesn't go off, keep children and pets at a safe distance, and never mix fireworks with alcohol or drugs.
Celebrate the holiday with great memories, not a trip to the emergency room. Better yet, leave the fireworks to the professionals.

Before the fireworks start, our Fire Inspectors have already been hard at work.
Over the past several days, they've visited all 16 licensed fireworks stands in Independence to make sure they're ready for a safe holiday. That means checking everything from emergency exits and clear walkways to generator safety, emergency lighting, and making sure everyone knows smoking and va**ng aren't allowed near the tents.
A quick reminder: Fireworks are only legal to use in Independence during the following times:
- July 3 & 5: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
- July 4: 10 a.m. – Midnight
A safe Fourth starts long before the first firework goes up. Thank you to our Fire Inspectors for helping keep our community safe.
