Look what we’ve got here! Get ready ya’ll.

We have a few thousand beautiful tomato plants at various stages of development. The first round will be ready to pick for next week’s CSA.

Now don’t get too excited. It will be a couple weeks before we are swimming in them and then we’ll be ready for market sales and bulk boxes.

The garlic is harvested! We were blessed with an excellent harvest this year of big beautiful garlic. It may be our best harvest ever! We thank God for a bountiful harvest that we are excited to share with you!

What do you think of these?
Bouquets being made for CSA members who managed to snag them before they were sold out. Elijah has been busy planting flowers to start his own side hustle with the help of some siblings. Over the next few years he may end up with a legitimate business. Thanks for your support! We enjoy having for flowers growing around the farm.

What’s the secret to providing a consistent supply of tomatoes for our CSA members?

A few things can be seen here:
1) succession planting: to prevent a glut all at once we plant several times spread weeks apart. Here you see baby plants alongside plants laden with green fruits.

2) Keep their leaves dry: we plant them under cover to keep dew and rain off the leaves. Foliar diseases thrive in our wet humid environment. Since we don’t use chemical fungicides, this is the best way to prevent and slow disease.

3) trellis them to increase airflow to prevent disease and ease harvest and improve fruit quality.

4) mulch soil: here we are using reusable w**d mat to prevent weds and hold in the moisture and prevent soil contact with foliage. We also have drip irrigation under the fabric to water without getting the leaves wet.
