Streaming services have become a way of life and cable and satellite providers viewed them as a death blow to the industry. That's why it was shocking when a few years back Dish announced it would integrate Netflix into their systems. I subscribe to Netflix and feel like the $12.99 monthly fee is fair. Did I think it was a better deal at $9.99 or even the original $7.99 yes. What was that service where you could get 2 dvds mailed to you at a time for a set monthly fee? I can't remember what is was called. I suppose my average cost to watch a movie was just over $1 a piece. The more I watched the cheaper it was. Well not really I still paid the same if I watched 1 movie 10 movies or none. I suppose it was only a value to me if there was content I wanted to watch. Watching TV has changed in how we do it, when we want to it, and how much we pay to do it. If the content isn't there than the value goes down. I love movies and always have. I grew up in the age of 27 inch tv's and the 27 pound VCR. Believe it not I was one of the first adopters of the DVD way back in 1997. They were not for sale hardly anywhere and only a hand full of titles were available too choose from. One of my first purchases was Stargate and I had to flip it over to the other side half way through the movie. I rented titles at Dillions and only one other person was renting DVD's at the time. He was a friend of mine and if the title was out he was renting it. I remember calling Aardvark video and asking if they were planning on carrying DVD's. They said not now but maybe later if they catch on. I wouldn't say I have always been on the cutting edge since I never adopted the laser disc. If you remember those record sized video disc, which I have not seen anywhere in a long time. Maybe I dreamt those up and they never existed but it seems like they pre dated the compact disc. I did however remember getting my first cd player in the mid 80's. And I remember how I felt watching DVD's for the first time. Listening to Cd's for first time. HD for the first time and so on.
