Why a vintage shop isn’t the same as a thrift store:

Thrift stores get their items donated to them.
Their money goes towards charity and Lost Girls is a for profit business even though we support a lot of charity organizations in the city. Most importantly, thrift stores will take *almost* anything and resell it. Vintage shops like ours select the very best examples of vintage, mend, repair, research items before selling them to you. We are extremely selective and our curation process is very extensive.

Why a vintage shop isn’t the same as a consignment shop:

A consignment shop takes contemporary and vintage items from people and resells them, then pays out a portion of the sale to the original people. Each consignment shop has a different percentage of payout (40/60% or 50/50% etc) and different rotation systems (some shops give you your items back after 3 months, others less, and others more). They accept appointments or walk-in buying appointments.

A secondhand or resell shop:

While this is the closest thing to a vintage shop, this isn’t completely accurate. Vintage can also be deadstock (never worn) items. A secondhand shops also sells used contemporary items while we do not.

What does being a vintage shop mean?

It means that we curate all of our pieces. Our items are 20 years or older (that means items from 2003 are now vintage!) We also research, mend, clean, and select only the BEST for you!

We’ve introduced a handful of contemporary items and items from makers so there is often confusion. While we are not offended by any of these categories we thought it would be a great way of teaching the difference! 10/28/2023
