Crew on one of three Swan yachts (say those 3 words fast) departing from Newport RI. We will be stopping at the amazing island of Bermuda for a couple of days. Our final destination is St. Maarten in the Leeward Islands of el Carib. Offshore sailing is not for everyone. Is it for you?

I have been chosen to skipper on this years Sail OPO voyage to el Carib. I will be captain of my buddy Hank’s own boat, Avocation, a 48′ Swan. Hank will be skippering a friends Swan 48′. Can you say, offshore match racing? The Swan 65′ Aurora will be joining.

October 30 to November 18, 2025. You arrive October 30 into NPT. The yachts should arrive into St Maarten, SXM by November 18th. Hang around for the post party. There are a couple of crew spots left. More details and to sign up: SailOPO.com/Swan_Program.

October 20 to November 8, 2025 is a different Offshore Passage Opportunity with solo circumnavigator Tania Aebi on the big beautiful Swan 68, Aphrodite. The yacht is sailing from Mallorca, Spain, stopping in Gibraltar and the island of Madeira on the way to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Both opportunities and more: SailOPO.com/Swan_Program. Sailing: Mexico's Mazatlan to Los Angeles, sailboat delivery. We are moving a Catalina 36 up the coast in May.
I am starting the crew search. For my primary crewmember I look for a person who has experience on trips to weather. Usually someone I have sailed with. Our third tends to be someone eager to gain offshore seatime with pro crew and route experience.
The trip is mostly upwind, upcurrent, upswell.
We love these trips but note they tend to be what I call bumpy. For the uninitiated, it is 5 or 6 days of climbing and falling off of short swells - the Baja bash. With a couple of fast but fun fuel stops, usually Cabo and Turtle Bay. Customs in Ensenada and SD. Looking forward to it.
