I don't often press my seams open, but there are times when it just makes more sense. I hear a lot of opinions on this topic 😉 and I think that's what makes quilting such a great hobby. There are so many different ways to do things that there is going to be a way that works perfectly for you.

But if a pattern calls for pressing seams open, and it makes you nervous, my number one tip is to shorten your stitch length. There is a much smaller chance of those stitches coming a part. If that still doesn't make you feel good about pressing the seams open, then press to the side. It's all about finding what works for you, and what makes quilting a happy and satisfying hobby.
