Microsoft will never put a popup screen on your computer with a number to call. It is always a scam and the scammer can encrypt your pc if you let them remote onto your pc. Then they will force you to pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars for you to unlock your pc. Just close the browser and it will go away.

If you save things to an external drive it is good practice to make copies of the data on to a second drive. I have several drive failures just in the past week. Data is much more difficult to recover from an external drive because the problem is usually with the mechanics of the drive itself. Always backup your data

if you still have a pc with WindowsXP and your online banking or shopping sites are warning you that they will stop supporting Internet Explorer 8 you can use the Firefox or Chrome browser. Those two still support XP even thought Microsoft has dropped support for its own operating system.
