Disability Resource Network continues to partner with Region IV Public Health Training Center as a field placement site for graduate students in Public Health to provide a hands-on experience to work on projects, receiving training, and learn from field professionals on disability. Please welcome our new Public Health Intern, Kennedy Kennebrew.

Kennedy Kennebrew is a graduate student at Alabama A&M University pursuing a Master’s degree in Counseling. She currently serves as the Public Health Intern at Disability Resource Network, where she works on projects focused on mental health awareness, men's health, and learning disabilities. During her internship, Kennedy helps develop seminars to increase understanding of learning disabilities and prepares workshops for Men’s Mental Health Month in June.

Kennedy is also a graduate ambassador on campus, where she demonstrates leadership representing graduate education on campus. Also, she enjoys interning with Disability Resource Network because it allows her to make a meaningful impact while gaining hands-on experience in community outreach and disability advocacy.

Kennedy’s career goal is to become a counseling professional who advocates for mental wellbeing. Outside of her professional and academic pursuits, Kennedy enjoys activities that encourage self-care, including live music and Pilates. We are thankful to have Kennedy interning with us for the Summer and look forward to the amazing projects she will be working on.

The 2026 Power to Choose: Healthy Relationships 101 is Disability Resource Network’s inaugural cohort. Cohort members received a $100 stipend and certificate at the completion of the program. The program is for people with disabilities in 13 counties in North Alabama. This year’s program was funded by the Megan Montgomery Foundation , with five members selected through a competitive application process. The program includes three virtual workshops on the following topics:

Social Media & Mental Health
Toxic Relationships
Online Dating

All workshops are presented by experts that have a background in counseling and dating accessibility. This program supports Disability Resource Network’s mission by promoting independence among people with disabilities and providing them the skills and tools they need to be self-sufficient and live life independently. Thank you to our presenters Dr. Keli Brothers, Lauren Self LPC, and Alexa & Jacqueline Childs. Congratulations to our graduates:
