“Through the Window, Darkly” Closing Reception: May 16, 3pm-5pm
Artist spotlight: Tate Klacsmann.
Nathaniel (Tate) Klacsmann captures the consciousness of animals as they exist independent from, but intermingled with humanity. Loving beauty more than efficiency, they first meticulously carves each thing that appears in their work in linoleum or wood. Some of the resulting relief prints are further developed with paint, ink, and colored pencil and become parts of mixed media collages or installations; other prints are scanned and turned into polyester lithography plates or used in digital collages.
Klacsmann is a member and former council member of the Society of American Graphic Artists (SAGA). Their work has been shown nationally and internationally and is included in the permanent collections of the Albany Institute of History and Art and The Smith College Museum of Art, the flat files and archives of Zea Mays Printmaking, and the Miriam Shapiro Archives at Rutgers University. In 2014, he received the Medal of Honor in Mixed Media and Walinska Memorial Award from the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA).
He completed certificates in Green Printmaking at Zea Mays Printmaking, and Graphics and Animation at University of North Georgia; an MFA at Vermont State University; a Masters of Art History at the University of Glasgow, and a BA at Yale University.

“Through the Window, Darkly” Closing Reception: May -6, 3-5pm.
Artist spotlight: Branda Maholtz.
Pittsburgh-based artist (with deep ties to the Hudson Valley), Branda C. Maholtz, works primarily in oil paint and pastels. Her work is known for its loose brushstrokes and thoughtful color palette that evoke an illusory, dream-like abstraction, even when the subject matter is familiar. Branda’s titles demand attention not only for their contextualization of the pieces, but also as they serve as an attempt to form a deep emotive connection with the viewer. In her recent works for the series “Landscapes: Postcard Sent from the Past” (2022-2024), Branda creates a sense of place for her most vulnerable experiences while playing with idea of a double-entendre by titling her pieces twice to further explore the multiplicity of meaning and memory as it evolves and is open to interpretation. Branda’s work has been selected for several Associated Artists of Pittsburgh shows, including “Brooklyn X Pittsburgh: the Industry of Art” curated by Eric Shiner, and “Spring Thaw 2025: Alchemists in the Greenhouse.” She was a finalist for TenMoir Gallery’s “Secret Garden” and “Lucid Dream” in 2025, shown at “Images 2024 and 2005” juried Gallery Exhibition, and received an Honorable Mention for the Pittsburgh Scene Innovation Grant in 2023. She has also shown work in Hudson, NY. Her solo show, “get (it) together: selected works” garnered much attention in the Pittsburgh area.
Branda is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Society of Artists.
