It’s been a quiet week for us— and for good reason. This week, we lost a true legend. A man who made a deep and lasting impact on everyone who was lucky enough to know him: Jim Tynsky.

Anyone who ever met Jim knows what a remarkable human he was. He was my personal hero, the person who inspired me to pursue what we love. His passion, kindness, and unwavering dedication touched countless lives—not only those who dig within the Green River Formation, but the entire world of paleontology.

One of Jim’s greatest achievements was the discovery of the most complete Eohippus ever found in the Fossil Butte Member. That discovery etched his legacy into the halls of one of the most prestigious institutions in the world—the Smithsonian. Every person who walks through those halls will see the mark he left on science, his passion preserved forever.

Jim, you will be missed by so many. Your influence, your mentorship, and your incredible life have shaped more people than you’ll ever know. Thank you for everything you gave to this world.
