Yesterdays "walk-a-bout" brought new awareness to the capabilities of the new Nikon ZIII. The pics of this male Calico Pennant dragonfly were taken along the side of our community pond. It was pretty breezy and dragonflies can perch on a tall blade of grass. Many of my shots yesterday were taken while the grass was moving like an erratic pendulum. The Calico Pennant is one of my favorite dragonflies and it is amazing to watch. Hope you enjoy! Pics taken in Atkinson, NH

Usually later in the season, you can see birds and other critters that get tipsy while eating berries. The berries will ferment on the bushes. On Wed. I watched this young Gray Catbird eating berries. It slowly started to act funny and soon was sleeping spread out on this bush. It was there for close to an hour before it flew away. It seems early, but it sure seemed like it was getting tipsy from fermenting berries. Pics taken in Parker River National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Newbury, Ma.

The spring/ early summer Alewife/ Herring run is an important event for many animals. We have seen Eagles, Osprey, Mink, Great Blue Herons, Cormorants and Gulls all feeding on the migrating fish. The Black Crowned Night Heron is another that relies on the migration. Most of the critters are in their breeding season and nature co-ordinates the migration with the arrival of young.
