Due to a loss that has hit hard, I’ve been focusing on ways to help LEOs render aid during trauma situations. It had to be light, wearable everyday, handle most trauma situations until further aid arrived. Duplicity and multi use were key. We have put together what we think is a solid starting point. The three main pieces: a Snakestaff ETQ, Slishman pressure wrap and a pack of Z -fold compressed Gauze. With these three items you can handle most immediate responses to a casualty. We wrapped them in an ankle medical carry band, but you could spilt them up. Put the ETQ in a double stack mag pouch on your duty belt. It’s small enough to not be noticed, yet it will be readily available when needed for rapid deployment.

Things were didn’t include:
No gloves. LEO already carry them, no need to add the expense. Fill it from your supply.
No chest seal. You have gloves. Put your hand over the hole. Remember this is a short term kit till definitive care gets there. In most civilian populated areas that’s 7-8 minutes. You are just buying time till the bus gets there.
No Needle D. Very small chance of use in the time we are looking at. So not worth the added weight and cost. We want 90% use, multiple use, not just one specific use that is hardly needed.
No Homeostatic gauze. One due to the price point. Two because there is no evidence of hemostaic gauze saving a life when regular gauze couldn’t. Yes, it stops the bleed quicker, but for tax payer dollars, just hold the pressure longer.

Possible upgrades:
Put in what you like to have. We wanted to give a solid starting point to get these items in as many hands as possible. You can add hemostatic gauze, chest seal and needle D. We would even be happy to sell that to you too.
We are considering adding a pair of gloves so there is always a set for an emergency . As well as a CPR face mask.

Oh one last thing. If you don’t have the knowledge on how to use these items they are useless. If you are in our area, Jacksonville NC, we are adding a seat to one of our Stop the Bleed courses. Send us a message if interested.

It can take less than two minutes for a person to bleed out and die. Being able to quickly and effectively identify and stop a life threatening bleed could save a life. Due to a recent loss of a fellow Marine, we feel compelled to offer our Stop The Bleed course free of charge to any LEO. We will offer this till June 30th, as space and time permits. The offer is good for the following counties here in NC: Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender. Message us here or send an email to [email protected] with questions or to schedule a course. We are happy to work with individuals and groups to provide cost effective quality training to fit your needs.
Our love and condolences go out to all involved.
