Sodium Benzoate
It’s supposed to be a safe food additive that’s being used to insure our food remains free of fungi and bacteria. It’s called Sodium Benzoate but even though it’s in our foods and drinks it doesn’t do much to preserve our health. Actually it is seriously detrimental to our health. It can damage our DNA which could lead to degenerative diseases. It can accelerate the aging process and cause liver damage. It can also lead to hyperactivity in children. Sodium Benzoate on its own is seriously harmful to our health, but mixed with Vitamin C, as in the case with many soft drinks, it turns into Benzene and can become a carcinogen (cancer causing chemical). Add some heat to the mix, like cases of soft drinks sitting in a warehouse in the summertime or in the trunk of your car and the toxic level goes even higher. The Environmental Protection Agency has classified Benzene as a Class A Carcinogen. Prolonged exposure to a Class A Carcinogen can possibly cause cancer, anemia, bone marrow damage, and a suppressed immune function which can open up a Pandora’s Box of potential diseases.
If you don’t drink sodas, don’t think you’ve dodged the bullet. Sodium Benzoate is in processed foods, salad dressing, pickles, some fruit juices and the list goes on and on. The next time you go grocery shopping, take your reading glasses because you are going to do a lot of label reading to avoid this additive.

Chitosan
Promotes Weight Loss

Chitosan is a supplement that promotes the loss of weight by not allowing fat to be absorbed by the body. It comes from an element in the skeletal areas of shellfish like lobster and crabs. Chitosan, when consumed orally acts like a fat sponge. As it passes through the small intestine it absorbs five to seven times its weight in fat, flushing it out of the body before it is metabolized and stored as excess body weight. But don’t get too excited just yet. True, Chitosan has the ability to absorb the fatty content of the food you eat before the fat is absorbed by the body. True, this allows you to eat your favorite fatty foods without fear of gaining weight. That’s what you can do.

But this is what you can’t do. You can’t assume you now have a license to overeat, and you can’t take Chitosan for more than two weeks at a time. The reason is, while Chitosan is cleaning the fat out of your body, it has a bad habit of also cleaning out the good vitamins like Vitamins A,D,E and K. So long term use of Chitosan is ill advised. Just to be on the safe side, take additional supplements of Vitamins A,D,E, and K. Also it’s a good idea to take Omega 3 and Flax supplements. If you follow these guidelines, Chitosan can be used safely.

There’s even more good news about Chitosan. Tests have shown that those taking Chitosan have fewer pre-cancerous polyps in their colons than those who have not taken it. Tests have also shown that Chitosan can significantly lower total blood cholesterol levels and raise HDL (good cholesterol) levels. Chitosan also prevents tooth decay and is an excellent antacid. Be sure to drink at least eight glasses of distilled water daily while taking Chitosan. This supplement works best when you follow a sensible diet and exercise program.

Caution
Do not take Chitosan if you are allergic to shellfish. Do not take this supplement if you are pregnant, lactating, or under the age of 18.
