The Black Cowboy/girl Preservation Project at the University of Houston is working to preserve these stories. We talk with Dr. Tara Green, Chair of the African American Studies Department, and Dr. Demetrius Pearson, Associate Professor of Health and Human Performance, tell us more. The oral history archive will be housed at the Houston Public Library’s African American History Research Center.”

Born in New Orleans in 1875, Dunbar-Nelson became a respected teacher, fiction writer, poet, journalist and suffragist.
