The legacy of African American leadership in home health and hospice continues today.

Across the country, African American clinicians, executives, and entrepreneurs are:
• Leading home health and hospice organizations
• Expanding culturally competent care models
• Advocating for equitable Medicare access
• Strengthening outreach through churches and community partnerships

Family-centered care, faith-based support systems, and advocacy for equity remain central themes in this history.

As a Black-owned organization, Precision Medical Billing is proud to support agencies that serve diverse communities with integrity, excellence, and compassion.

This Black History Month, we celebrate the past, recognize the present, and remain committed to advancing equitable care for all.

In 1879, Mary Eliza Mahoney became the first professionally trained African American nurse in the United States.

At a time when racial barriers were deeply entrenched in healthcare, she not only excelled in her profession but advocated for equal opportunities for Black nurses.

Her work helped professionalize home-based nursing services, which became foundational to the growth of home health care across America.

Because of pioneers like Mahoney, generations of African American nurses have strengthened home health and hospice services nationwide.

This Black History Month, we honor her leadership, resilience, and lasting impact on healthcare equity.
