On this day in Vermont's history: the state officially adopted its third (and current) flag in 1903: a blue banner with the Vermont Coat of Arms in the center. The pine tree in the center represents Vermont's forests, the cow and wheat represent the state's agriculture heritage, and the deer head on top represents the state's wildlife. The banner at the bottom proclaims the state's motto: "Freedom and Unity".
