The Arctic port concept is moving forward. The original concept, as shown, is being considered for implementation in the Qilak Project at Pt. Thompson off the coast of Alaska in the Beaufort Sea. It is proposed that the project would move Pt. Thompson gas via marine vessels to market in the Pacific rim. The project web site has a more detailed account (www.qilaklng.com). The project is being directed by Lloyds Energy with offices in the United Kingdom. The project will purchase gas from ExxonMobil, the operator of the unit,
The original concept was put forward in 2014 at the Arctic Technology Conference in Houston, Texas as a concept for the development of an Arctic Port by JCLA Consulting, Ltd. Consulting, Ltd. Since that time the concept was presented in 2016 as an alternate to the Alaskan Gas Pipeline Project. As of this writing the concept has gained more acceptance with the successful operation of the Russian Arctic LNG Project. The project is less costly that the Alaskan project.
The original concept is still valid and will solve the issue of an Arctic Port. The concept of having and LNG loading terminal has been further optimized. The new designs have incorporated several ideas leaned from the Russian LNG experience. This design is applicable to the Beaufort Sea in USA waters and Canadian waters.
