Join Pier & Beam on Wednesday, July 22 for Happy Hour at No Vacancy, an immersive cocktail bar inside one of Main Street's oldest commercial buildings.
Originally built in the 1870s, the building has housed everything from saloons and bookstores to jewelers, vaudeville performances, and the longtime home of Barringer-Norton Co.
Today, the building is home to No Vacancy, an immersive cocktail bar that transforms the space into a fictional vintage roadside motel. Richly layered with crimson drapery, patterned wallpaper, vintage furnishings and playful nods to mid-century Americana, it feels part roadside motel, part old hotel lounge and part movie set — with every detail contributing to a world that is equal parts nostalgic, mysterious and theatrical.

A little rain couldn't stop us this month! ☔
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Market Square Architecture Walk and helped explore one of Houston's most historic neighborhoods.
Along the way, we learned that the clock in the Market Square clock tower is the original clock from Houston's 1904 City Hall and that the iconic "Home of Easy Credit" building isn't just a mid-century Houston landmark—it's hiding an 1893 Victorian commercial building underneath its façade.
Rain or shine, there's always something new to discover in Houston's historic places.

In honor of Father’s Day, we’re celebrating legacies built across generations!
Preservation Houston is proud to recognize Hamilton Shirts with the 2026 Legacy Business Award for more than 140 years of craftsmanship, family tradition, and enduring Houston history.
Founded in 1883, Hamilton Shirts remains one of Houston’s oldest family-owned businesses and America’s longest-standing bespoke shirtmaker.
Through four generations of family ownership, the company has continued the art of hand-cut, custom shirtmaking — proving that preservation isn’t only about buildings, but also the family businesses, skills, and traditions passed down over time.
