As a 2025 Fulbright Scholar, Philip spent two months in Rio de Janeiro last fall studying modern Brazilian cello repertoire and discovering music rarely heard in the U.S.
We're excited to share those discoveries with you next season in a ROCO Connections concert at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's Lynn Wyatt Theater on April 16, 2027. Featuring musical influences spanning classical, folk, and contemporary traditions, the concert will celebrate the rich musical traditions of Brazil 🇧🇷

Conductor Michelle Merrill led ROCO through trailblazer Louise Farrenc's Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, in the finale of our 18th concert season.
Here, the sweeping second movement features a long, lyrical melody floating among the winds, supported by a beautiful string accompaniment.
