The Texas workforce saw the addition of 134 total teachers at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year—a 98.02% decrease from the 6,771 total teachers added the year prior, according to Texas Education Agency data.
Additionally, roughly 11.6% of the 2020-21 workforce—or about 42,800 teachers—had left the profession by the end of the school year, which is nearly 9,000 more than the previous year, TEA data shows.
