Today we celebrate German–French Friendship Day 🇩🇪🇫🇷
Observed each year on January 22, this day marks the anniversary of the 1963 Élysée Treaty, signed by Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer. The treaty laid the foundation for lasting peace, cooperation, and especially youth exchange between Germany and France.
This unique partnership continues to shape Europe through dialogue, cultural exchange, and shared values. Beyond Europe, it is also reflected in the work of its representatives here in Houston, where Consul General Kai Hennig (Germany) and Consul General Frank Marchetti (France) actively foster cooperation, build bridges, and strengthen transatlantic ties within the local community.

Dr. Ute Eisele of the German Language School Houston receives the prestigious GLSC Merit Award 2025.
In 1986, Dr. Ute Eisele founded the Deutsche Samstagsschule Houston together with two other mothers. For nearly four decades she has led the school with exceptional dedication, growing it from 70 to more than 370 students of all ages.
Under her leadership, the school has become both an outstanding institution for German language education and a vibrant cultural center that shares German literature, music, history, and traditions with the Houston community. Dr. Eisele has also built and inspired a highly qualified and long-standing team of instructors who teach everyone from Kindergarteners to adults preparing for university studies or careers in Germany.
