There was this one time, about six months into my editing job at WMC Action News 5 in Memphis, the pressure was on. Deadlines were flying. I turned to my chief editor and said, “Look, at a certain point, I’m slappin’ and smearin’!” — meaning, I was laying down whatever video I could find just so the anchor had something to read over.
Not ideal. But real.
From audio booths to broadcast newsrooms, from radio mornings with Argo Memphis to steadicam vests in the newsroom—I’ve learned this craft through the fire and the favor of God. And let me tell you: whether it’s editing or life, “You gotta keep it tight, Mikey.”
