Dancer’s Twist!

This is a great one to do in the morning, right after you wake up, or in the evening just before you go to bed.

**One of the easiest ways we know to ruin your spine in a hurry is to twist while slouching, a.k.a. spinal flexion.

Unfortunately, that describes almost every normally accepted yoga twist.

Though twisting while slouching is akin to poison, twisting through extension is like eating your veggies.

Try it out. Be sweet. Pay attention. Inhale. Let us know if you have any questions.

Things to note:

If you feel any twinges in your knees or back, back off and try again. See if you can change the direction by reaching a little longer through that straight arm before you rotate. Be mindful of keeping the front of your shoulder off the floor.

We’re all figuring out this thing called being alive for the very 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 time. 🌎✨⁣

No one 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 knows what they’re doing.⁣

Not me.⁣
Not you.⁣
Not the people who seem confident.⁣
Not the people giving advice.⁣

We’re all making our best guesses from where we stand, navigating circumstances we’ve never encountered before. 🧭⁣

As you’ve probably noticed, life won’t always go according to plan. 🌧️☀️⁣

People will disappoint us.⁣
We will disappoint ourselves.⁣
Things will end. 🍂⁣
Things will begin. 🌱⁣

And every time we allow ourselves to fully experience what is here: the joy, grief, fear, awe, uncertainty, and love… we become a little more skillful at being alive.⁣

We sharpen the tools in our toolkit for future moments that are as yet unknown. 🛠️✨⁣

Since difficult feelings are part of the deal, perhaps the work is to develop the capacity to meet life as it unfolds.⁣

To savor, if you will, the flavor of right now. 💗⁣

In my 20s, I couldn’t do this 𝘢𝘯𝘺 of this and definitely not with kindness to myself. 🤗⁣

Not because I was lazy but because I didn’t yet understand how to work 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 my body instead of against it.⁣

One of my favorite things about getting older has been discovering that feeling better, getting stronger, moving with more freedom, kindness and grace is still available… Maybe now more than ever given 𝗡𝗢𝗪 is what we’ve got. 💚⁣

You do not need to already be flexible, advanced, or “𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘨𝘢” to begin. A little bit really does go a long way and the sooner you start, the better. 💪⁣
