Infusion pumps are critical in clinical settingsโespecially in intensive careโwhere even small deviations in flow rate can significantly impact patient outcomes.
Through a real-world, post-market evaluation aligned with the IEC 60601-2-24:2012 standard, this study reveals that even newly acquired infusion pumps may exhibit clinically relevant deviations in flow accuracy and timing under actual operating conditions. These findings highlight potential gaps that may not be captured through routine acceptance testing alone, particularly when devices are subjected to varying pressure environments.

Affiliation: The Childrenโs Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China
๐ This study compares the performance of reusable vs. disposable ventilator patient circuits using a ventilator gas flow analyzer. Key findings include:
โ
No significant difference in respiratory rate, tidal volume, and end airway pressure
โ
Slightly higher peak airway pressure in reusable circuits (~0.2 mbar), but clinically negligible
โ
Disposable circuits offer advantages in clinical treatment, including improved humidity control and reduced nursing workload
The findings highlight that while both circuit types maintain ventilator performance, disposable circuits may enhance patient care and clinical efficiency. The study also suggests further evaluation in complex cases, especially in pediatric patients.
