Moosehead Pools
With all of the storms and rain we've had in our area these last several weeks, it's always a good idea to keep some pool shock on hand to help the pool recover after a heavy rainfall event. You can pick up pool shock at any pool supply store, Costco, Sams, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.
After a heavy rainfall all of that extra water washes out pool chlorine levels, pool chemistry and also any algaecide that has been added. Adding shock to a pool is simple. Just walk around the perimeter of the pool and add 2lbs. of shock slowly. You can also mix it with water in a bucket and then slowly pour in while walking around the pool. Rainwater contains all types of contaminants and shocking the pool immediately following a heavy rain event will get the pool on recovery mode quickly, and will also help the pool from going Green before we can get there for weekly maintenance.

It's that time of year again with A LOT of leaves and debris entering the pools. Be sure to check and clean out pool skimmers daily, or multiple times daily while falling leaves are at their peak. When the pool skimmer baskets get clogged with leaf debris, water flow to the Main Filter Pump is significantly limited and can cause pumps to overheat or lose prime all together resulting in expensive repairs. It's also a good idea to check and empty the pool cleaner bag every couple of days. If leaf debris builds up on the pool floor, it can stain the plaster and also causes algae issues. During this brief time window of so many leaves falling, a small amount of daily maintenance by keeping the skimmer baskets clear and also emptying the cleaner bag will really protect the pool equipment.
