On this day in 1997, Mars Pathfinder successfully touched down on Mars. The mission demonstrated a new way to safely land on Mars using a parachute and system of airbags. Pathfinder delivered the robotic rover Sojourner to the martian surface. Sojourner carried instruments for scientific observations and to provide engineering data on new technologies being demonstrated. The mission ended on September 27, 1997. https://ow.ly/TSNa50Zhf7T
