Olivia Cunningham is bringing an athlete’s perspective to Rice’s new Master of Digital Health program.

At Clemson University, where she studied biomedical engineering and played on the rugby team, her background in athletics became part of her academic life through biomechanics research, sensor validation and remote gait analysis.

Now at Rice University Electrical & Computer Engineering, she will continue to explore how engineering, movement and health care can intersect in meaningful ways through digital health applications.

A rare triple honor recognizes a career of impactful service and leadership.

Rice University President Reginald DesRoches has been elected to the National Academy of Construction, placing him in an elite group of only 18 individuals globally who hold membership in the NAC, the National Academy of Engineering, and status as a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

President DesRoches is recognized for being “a distinguished scholar and visionary leader.” Join us in celebrating this milestone and the impact his leadership has had at Rice, both as the eighth president and former dean of engineering.

Rice President DesRoches elected to National Academy of Construction The National Academy of Construction has elected Rice President Reginald DesRoches as one of 45 new members in its Class of 2026.

Congratulations to Qilin Li, recipient of the 2026 Walter J. Weber, Jr. AEESP Frontier in Research Award from the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors.

Rice researchers are advancing engineering and inspiring what's next.

The National Academy of Engineering announced the outstanding early-career researchers selected for this year’s Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering 2026 Symposium. Rice University Materials Science and Nanoengineering's Christina Tringides and Rice University Mechanical Engineering's Vanessa Sanchez have been selected for this distinguished cohort.

Rice University Bioengineering's Omid Veiseh will also participate as an invited speaker for the 2026 U.S. Frontiers of Engineering in September.
