When you’re tiling, especially large format tile it’s really important you’re using directional troweling to achieve proper thinset mortar for tile. Some of the best ways to do this is:

1. Use the right sized notched trowel for your tile and substrate
2. Use directional troweling especially for larger format tile, collapsed ridges means good coverage.
3. You need to be embedding your tile into the mortar this shouldn’t be a just drop it down and go. Either using your body weight to collapse the ridges or an electric vibration tool.

Following these industry best practices will result in a tile installation that can last a lifetime. Remember you need 95% or more coverage in a wet area and 80% or more in dry.
