McGregor's Five-Year Comeback Finally Hits Vegas UFC 329 in Vegas - McGregor vs Holloway 2, at welterweight, 13 years after the first one.

First fight was back in 2013 in Boston. Featherweight. McGregor won by decision but tore his ACL mid-fight. That was Holloway at 21 years old, on short notice. Completely different fighters now.

Here’s the breakdown:

1. The layoff factor
McGregor hasn't fought since the leg break vs Poirier in July 2021. That's almost 5 years out. He's 37 now, been focused on boxing training clips like the ones you've been seeing, movies, business. The question isn't power - it's timing, movement, and can that left leg hold up wrestling and kicking for 25 minutes?

Holloway is the opposite - super active. Former featherweight champ, BMF champ after knocking out Gaethje at UFC 300 last year, and just fought at lightweight again. His volume and durability have only gotten better.

2. Why welterweight at 170?
It makes sense for a comeback. No brutal weight cut for either guy. Conor has fought at 170 three times before (both Diaz fights and Cerrone). Max has never fought at 170 in the UFC, but he's fought at 155 for the last 2 years and walks around big. At 170 both will be faster and have better gas than they would at 155.

3. Style clash 2026 version
2013 was McGregor's karate stance vs a kid boxer. Now it's:

McGregor's path: Early knockout. Still has the best left hand counter in the game. Holloway pressures with his hands down and leans forward - that's exactly what Conor feasts on. If he can keep it at range for rounds 1-2, check calf kicks, and land that left straight down the middle, he can end it early.

Holloway's path: Drown him in volume. Max averages 7+ significant strikes landed per minute. Conor has always faded after round 2 when pushed. Max will pressure, go body-head, mix in clinch work, and test Conor's cardio and leg. His chin is legendary - he's never been knocked down in the UFC.

4. X-factors in Vegas
Vegas crowd will be 90% McGregor. Pressure will be insane. For Max, this is legacy - beat the guy who beat him when he was a kid and become the first to beat McGregor twice at two weights. For Conor, it's do-or-die for ever fighting for a title again.

If this goes past round 3, it tilts heavily to Holloway. If McGregor is going to win, it likely has to be in the first 10 minutes
