💥 June's milestone adoption goes to Rooster!
After 15 months in foster care, Rooster finally found his forever family and it's the kind of match rescue dreams are made of. His new family absolutely adores him, and watching him thrive has been one for the books.

As always, thank you to every adopter, foster, volunteer, donor, and supporter who helped make these happy endings possible. We truly couldn't do it without you.

We wanted to talk about something we see pretty often when saving a dog from the euthanasia list.

First of all… thank you. We LOVE adoption applications. Truly. Seeing so many people willing to open their homes is one of the best parts of rescue.

That said, when we pull a dog from the euthanasia list, we don’t actually know that dog yet.

At that point, they’ve never lived in a home with us. Maybe a volunteer spent 15 minutes with them. We haven’t learned their personality, how they do with other animals, what kind of home they’ll thrive in, or what medical needs they may have.

If we were choosing adopters the day we tagged a dog, we wouldn’t be doing right by that dog.

One of the biggest parts of rescue is vetting and that doesn’t just mean vetting adopters. It also means getting to know the dog first so we can make the best possible match for both our potential adopters and the dog.

Take Paris, for example. She’s 9 years old, heartworm positive, and severely underweight. We don’t yet know what her full medical workup will show, and because of her age, there’s a good chance she’ll need the longer heartworm treatment protocol. That means she may be in foster care for 3–5 months before she’s medically cleared and ready for adoption.

We know so many of you have already fallen in love with her, and we couldn’t be more grateful. But we won’t be in a position to choose her forever family until we truly know who she is and what she needs.

Please remember that we’re an all-volunteer rescue. The only reason we do this is to give these dogs the very best outcome possible. Every decision we make is centered around what’s best for them not what’s fastest or easiest.

So thank you for loving Paris. Thank you for applying. Thank you for trusting our process.

We promise every application will be reviewed carefully when the time comes, and we’ll work hard to find her the perfect forever home.
