Three terms most people confuse. Save this carousel and you'll never confuse them again.

Deductible. The amount YOU pay before the plan starts paying anything. If your deductible is $3,000, the first $3,000 of covered expenses come out of your pocket.

Coinsurance. After the deductible is met, the percentage YOU pay of each remaining bill until you hit your out-of-pocket max. Usually 20% or 30%.

Out-of-pocket max. The MOST you'll pay in a year for covered care, period. After you hit it, the plan covers 100% for the rest of the year.

Where people get confused: they think hitting the deductible means everything is free after that. It doesn't. You're still paying coinsurance until you hit the OOP max. The OOP max is the actual finish line.

The carousel walks through each one in plain English, with a real example showing how a $40,000 hospital bill actually flows through a plan.

If you have a plan and you've never been able to explain these three numbers to your spouse, send the carousel to them. Then call me if you want me to look at your actual numbers.
