I’ve struggled to put my thoughts into words since the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk, and after a few days to process all this and reflect on everything, I think I can finally articulate something, so here it goes…

I keep hoping this is just one long bad dream we will all wake up from. It still feels unreal, and my heart breaks most for his wife and two children who now have to carry on without him. As a husband and father myself, I can’t help but see my own family in theirs and my heart hurts just thinking about this new reality for them.

Losing both of my parents by the time I was teenager forced me to think about my mortality far earlier than most. And I have to admit it’s been a while since its even crossed my mind, but this week shook me to my core, as a father, that perspective feels even heavier now. Charlie was taken far too young, and I pray his family finds the strength to move forward and carry on his legacy.

I also pray for our country. We are clearly deeply divided and hurting and its times like this that shows peoples true colors. Charlie embodied civil debate — he spoke with passion, listened to opposing views, and lived out his First Amendment rights with conviction and faith creating a huge movement in the process. Even for those that disagreed and maybe didn’t even like him, we all should remember and respect that Charlie was a human being: a husband, father, and son.

My hope is that out of this darkness comes healing. That more of us step out of our echo chambers, stand firm in our beliefs, but also truly listen to one another and learn. That we find the courage to speak truth with compassion, and to protect the freedoms that make dialogue possible.

Rest in peace, Charlie. While we are all left here on this earth confused, angry, and horribly sad trying to understand why this all happened, we also have comfort in knowing that you are with the lord now and smiling down upon us. Cheers to you and everything that you have done for our country! May your legacy spark conversations that bring us closer, not further apart!
