As COVID-19 cases surge around the world, Taiwan has managed to keep the disease under control, with only 553 reported cases and 7 deaths since the pandemic began. While there have been no new domestically transmitted cases since April 12, new cases from international travelers have been recorded. Taiwan’s success has been attributed to its early action. On January 20, the government formed the Central Epidemic Command Center, which clearly communicated safety precautions with citizens. Taiwan was also quick to secure its borders, banning flights from Wuhan on January 23 and enforcing a 14-day quarantine for all arrivals.
