We were all born to fly.
But sometimes finding the courage to let go and see what happens terrifies us. We forget about how capable we really are. We worry about what others might think if we just go for it. Maybe when we assess risk, we aren’t considering our own resilience. Perhaps we stay grounded because it’s safer, it’s easier.
We are so much more than this. We are capable of so much more than we think we are. We need to believe in ourselves, and trust that our own abilities will take us where we want to go—and back again, if necessary. The first step is knowing that you can do it!

I know how it feels to be lost. I grew up not knowing what I was, or where I belonged. A lot of us did.
I’ve struggled with finding my place in the world, and it’s not easy. Our parents and grandparents taught us that we were different—not like them, and not like other people in our communities. We grew up believing lies—and a lot of us still do. We’re told we don’t belong here or there, but that’s just not true.
We are both here and there. We belong in our communities and families; those are the places we came from, and they should be our home bases no matter where we go next (or if we stay put). And we also belong in this new world that’s changing around us: our country is becoming more diverse every day; there are so many different types of people who aren’t afraid to be themselves anymore!
Let’s teach our kids they can be whoever they want to be without having to choose between two places they love—let’s teach them they belong everywhere!

I know that sounds like a cliche, but I can guarantee it is true.
My dog of five years died yesterday, I was heartbroken. I had just moved to a new part of town, I didn't know any of my neighbors yet, and all of my close friends were hours away in another state.
I felt so alone and hopeless—it seemed like there was no one who could understand what I was going through. But then I decided to reach out to my friends and family, and they were so supportive! They listened to me talk about how much my dog meant to me, and then they offered their own stories.
At first it felt awkward telling people about how sad I was over losing my dog, but then it felt good too: like they understood me better than anyone else ever has before because they'd been through something similar themselves. And maybe someday someone else will reach out to me when they need a shoulder to cry on or just someone who understands where they're coming from; maybe someday I'll be able to do the same for someone else in need of support.
So remember: One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through and it will be someone else’s survival guide.
