Junk food provides empty calories, supplying little or none of the protein, vitamins, or minerals required for a nutritious diet. Many foods, such as hamburgers, pizza, and tacos, can be considered either healthy or junk food, depending on their ingredients and preparation methods.

Burgers and pizza are not inherently bad. They both contain the macronutrients that should be present in every meal: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Unfortunately, bread contains a lot of simple carbohydrates. The body breaks these down easily into sugars. In excess, the body converts the sugars into fat for long term storage. The body functions best when the ratios of macronutrients are balanced based on ones lifestyle (active vs sedentary). Because there are so many different lifestyles, and because burgers and pizza can be prepared using so many methods/toppings, the ratios between macronutrients are often skewed, so its sometimes difficult to tell just how nutritious a particular burger or pizza might be. As a rule of thumb, always eat slowly and stop when you feel full. After all, the point of eating a delicious burger or pizza is to enjoy it& not to feel miserable afterward! Feeling satiated is your body signaling that it has received an adequate amount of nutrients. The body will store less fat and you are unlikely to gain weight.
