Happy Chardonnay Day y'all‼️It's the Thursday before Memorial Day, which means I have to show love to one of my favorite grapes. Now if you're still on the ABC train ("Anything But Chardonnay") just move along.

I continue to be surprised at all the places I find Texans, particularly Houstonians pop-up in the wine world. In this case, Alma Rosa winery is owned by Houstonians Bob and Barb Zorich. That they own a winery in one of my favorite regions, Sta. Rita Hills, means that we're just meant to be.

Sta. Rita Hills is a sub-region of Santa Barbara, which is one of the oldest wine-producing areas of California and is regarded as a marine-derived paradise for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Sta. Rita Hills’ unique geographic characteristics is what makes the region so special. The region’s vineyards lie in east-west valleys along the Pacific coastline. Cool ocean air is pulled in from the Pacific resulting in hyper-cooled temperatures in the vineyards. These cool temperatures translate into a long growing season which results in optimal ripeness of the grapes. Add in the region’s marine soils, and you’ve got something truly special. Beautiful purity of fruit carried along by vibrant acidity.

I love, love, love these wines.

What a weekend!! In addition to seeing my girl graduate👩🏽‍🎓, I had the opportunity to pop into a tasting from one of my fave Chardonnay producers from one of my favorite regions. Thrilled that owner and winemaker Jeff Nelson hung out with us in Houston for a few days. If you've been around these parts, you know that I loves me some wine from Sta. Rita Hills. I've lost track of the number of articles I've written about this amazing region. So good!

I still remember the first time I had the Liquid Farm Golden Slope Chardonnay. When I told Mr. Corkscrew that I almost felt the need to shed a tear, he just gave me the side-eye. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I mean if it's good...That wine does a sublime dance between minerality and juicy fruit. Like if you told me I couldn’t drink Bourgogne Blanc any more and could only drink this, I would be been just fine.

But while the Chardonnay is what drew me in, I so enjoy the entire portfolio. The rosé was so lithe and fresh and I wasn't prepared for the Pinot to steal the show. The Radian Pinot (like so many things from that vineyard) was 🔥! And such a fun way to experience the wines with different cheeses.

🍷 Well done Liquid Farm! Cheers to great wines from Sta. Rita Hiils!
