Ferritin test measures the amount of iron contained in a blood sample. Higher the quantity of iron found in the blood sample in the ferritin test, the more is the stored iron in the body. Ferritin is a compound that stores iron. It combines with another compound called transferrin to transport iron to the cells and tissues in the body. This molecule releases iron at the place where new blood cells are formed. Iron is a component of the red blood cells which carry oxygen in the body.
Low iron levels are associated with anemia. Hence, the patient experiences symptoms of anemia when having low ferritin levels, such as fatigue, muscle pain, headaches, and dizziness.
High ferritin may result from several diseases such as liver disease, hemochromatosis, and alcohol abuse disorder. Moreover, excess of vitamin C and vitamin D accelerate the absorption of iron in the body, increasing ferritin levels in the blood. Patients having high ferritin levels experience joint pains, chest pains, heart palpitations, and stomach pain too. As the liver has a role in the metabolism of ferritin so any damage to this organ affects the ferritin levels too. Alcoholism can increase ferritin levels in the blood, as it damages the liver.

Magnesium is one of the main elements that maintain the health of the bones. It has a role in regulating blood pressure, heartbeat, and metabolism. Abnormal magnesium levels are associated with several diseases that affect the kidney, intestine, and cardiovascular health. Excess secretion of magnesium in the blood is a sign of kidney malfunction too. Intestine and digestive system problems and smoking could adversely affect magnesium absorption. Moreover, low magnesium levels suggest the possibility of low potassium and calcium levels too.
Only 1% magnesium is present in the blood. Moreover, in case of low magnesium, the body starts to extract magnesium from the bones, making them weak. So, the results of the magnesium test only help in the diagnosis, along with other tests. This test is often prescribed to the patients suffering from diarrhea, diabetes, gastro-intestinal and kidney disease. Certain medications may also affect magnesium levels. Magnesium deficiency is associated with diabetes, insulin resistance, osteoporosis, and certain cancers.
Zinc and vitamin D supplements are used to increase magnesium levels.

D-Dimer is a protein formed upon the disintegration of a blood clot. The blood clot dissolves in the blood and D-Dimer forms as a byproduct. High D-dimer levels result from excessive blood clotting. Blood clot(s) in the blood can get harmful as they can reach the vital organs, the brain, heart, and lungs causing stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or other diseases. Not only that the high D-Dimer levels signal the possibility of several harmful diseases, but they also indicate a high risk of coronary heart diseases and intense health problems in case of cardiovascular diseases. There can be several reasons for high D-Dimer levels and the diseases that increase their count. The most frequent reason is immobility due to surgery or a medical condition. Vitamin K deficiency can also increase D-Dimer count, but this deficiency is rare.
