When the communication style has ZERO Empathy

When communication has ZERO empathy, even honest feedback can feel like rejection.

Sometimes the issue isn’t what was said… it’s the structure, tone, and presentation. The same message can either build connection or create resentment depending on how it’s delivered.

For example, if your wife spends time cooking a meal for you, jumping straight to:
“This food isn’t good”
without first acknowledging the effort, time, and intention behind it can feel dismissive.

A better communication structure is:

Appreciate the effort first.

Acknowledge the intention behind the act.

Then gently mention what could be improved.

Something as simple as:
“Thank you for making this, I really appreciate you taking the time to cook. I think the salt was just a little much for my taste, but I love that you made this for us.”

That lands very differently.

People usually remember how you made them feel more than the actual criticism itself.

Before speaking, do a quick emotional check:
“How will this be received?”
Not every truth has to be delivered harshly to be honest.

Empathy in communication doesn’t weaken your message — it increases the chances of it being understood.
