💜 Volunteer Notes:
ugh I love love love this girl so much! I think this girl is misunderstood. She has a strange behavior that is actually really cute, but got her onto the euthanasia list.  Ripley has a nervous smile where she curled her upper lip while she’s wagging her tail. It’s really rare to see a dog smile like that and I think that the staff confused it as a snarl. I tried to re-create it in the videos in the comments, but she’s just a complete love bug. There’s absolutely no aggression that I saw when I was with her. She was great at the fence with another dog and when I was up close in her face, she was fine as well. This girl is the cutest thing and at a petite little 33 pounds, she’s just about the cutest thing I’ve seen in a long time

📝 Shelter Notes:

1/28/26 – Ripley appears stressed in the kennel, barking and heavily panting when people pass by. Once out of the kennel, she presented a neutral body posture, low tail, and worried facial expression. She continues to curl her lip and squint her eyes when baby talk is used.
1/27/26 – Ripley presents a worried facial expression, low tail, and semi-tense body when approached. When baby talk is used, she wags her tail and lifts her lip, showing her teeth in a smile while squinting her eyes. She willingly walks out of the kennel and staff are able to place her in the outside runs. Ripley shows the same behavior again when the leash is removed. Kennel is covered and she remains quiet.
1/26/26 – Ripley is very timid/shy. When approached she runs away to the back corner of her kennel with a tucked tail, pinned back ears, whale eyes, and trembling. During afternoon enrichment removal she backed away as far as possible and remained tense with whale eyes, tucked tail, and pinned ears. She snapped toward a hand during removal. After enrichment was removed she remained in the corner pancaked and trembling.

🚑 Medical Notes:

1/20/26 – Exam noted normal findings. Heartworm test negative. Vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PP-V, Bordetella), dewormed.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Sienna is sooooo cute! I love her brindle coloring and she’s fun sized at only 28lbs. She’s full of personality and was very curious and friendly while spending time with us. She seems to still be recovering from a mild URI, but that didn’t slow her down at all. Outside she ran around, playing with toys and playbowing the fenceline with Romeo. I think she’ll definitely need a fur sibling to help keep her busy. It was so funny - she’d go from totally calm, to zoomies around the yard. I’m sure being stuck in a kennel has her pent up and that attributed to her energy, plus she’s still very much in the teenage “puppy” phase. She was a bit jumpy, but nothing overwhelming, and luckily she’s treat motivated and a good listener. She’s already been failed once in her short life, so I’m really hoping she gets a 2nd chance!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Sienna was brought to us after being found running around a busy intersection down the street from the shelter. She is a sweet girl who is very timid in her kennel. She will back up in her kennel if you approach but is a different dog outside in the yard. She loved getting to play with the people who took her outside. She does have an upper respiratory infection, so she will do so much better in a home, for both her timidity and illness.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: I don’t have much to say on Doc, because after reading his notes I kept my hands to myself 👀 Sounds like your typical senior chi - I still wanted to snap a pic of him though, to make sure he was seen! He was shaking in the kennel and retreated to the back when I stepped in. He never growled or tried to snap or anything, and he even took treats from me. Poor little guy has got to be scared - he’s had a rough few weeks, and I can’t imagine him out on his own. He’s HW-, so he definitely had a home up until recently, and it’s so sad he’s in this position now. Hopefully someone out there can give him a quiet place to live out his days. Per his notes, it sounds like he will need dental work.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Doc was brought in after he kept going to the finder's house, likely looking for someone to help him. Being a little guy, especially one of a certain age is hard when you're out in the world by yourself. Fortunately, the finder brought him to us. He was examined by our vet and was found to have normal heart and lung sounds, but severe dental tartar, periodontal disease, and halitosis. He does have missing and loose teeth, so he is eating canned food. Doc is a grumpy old man so he does not like to be picked up, restrained, or have his face touched. He will scream and try to bite, but once you let him go, he's fine and won't try to bite you. We think he would be a "get off my lawn" old man if he were human. He really just needs someone to take care of him (he loves to bury himself in blankets) but also let him be.
