Let’s talk Legos! Our clients frequently ask for guidance on Lego storage. Here are some easy solutions to corral small manipulatives. These setups allow independent clean up and promote organizational skills at a young age. Plus, they double as a building surface or a creation display shelf! Help your child feel proud of their designs and keep those pesky Legos off the floor!

Using a gate versus a typical Playpen: You can create a safe but open space for free movement, full of “yes” opportunities for your child.

Invitations: These invitations include a Pikler Triangle, a basket of balls made of felted wool, wooden blocks, sea sponge, and a gourd for natural, earthy elements. Other materials are still available in the bins to the right in our open shelving unit for this child to explore if desired.

Books: We always offer books in every setting we create! If you are not comfortable having certain books in constant reach of your child because of fear of ripping pages, offer board books. Remember, you can model how to treat books when exploring books together.

The natural lighting, subtle colors, different textures, and organic elements make this space feel calm and inviting rather than overstimulating.

We use the term “invitation” when referring to materials presented to young children. So, what does this mean? An invitation, or an “invitation to play” is a concept from the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. This philosophy encourages children to learn through exploration, by providing materials that invite them to explore play in a creative way with no expected outcome for success. Presenting manipulatives in this way is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it catches a child’s eye and piques their curiosity. Do you feel your child is bored with the toys in your home? Here in New Hampshire, Fall is upon us! On these wet, chilly mornings we wish we could be snuggled up on a sheepskin. Did you know sheepskins offer infants a safe space to explore floor time and rest their bodies? Not only does sheepskin keep infants safe and comfortable, it can help help regulate their body temperatures on cold days like today and during our hot New Hampshire summers!
