Next week, Fellows will reunite in Japan for their third and final in-person convening. The cohort’s first three days will be spent in Naha and Kumejima, Okinawa where they will visit and meet with graduate students at University of the Ryukyus, and tour the Okinawa Prefectural Government Deep Sea Water Research Center and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) demonstration plant. Fellows will also meet with local officials, businesses, and a land-based oyster cultivation site.

In Tokyo, the cohort will take part in expert panels with local scientists and researchers; and visit various sites throughout the Tokyo metropolitan area to learn about flood control and rainwater utilization.

Earlier this month, Fellows met in Fiji for the second of three in-person convenings. Their week-long visit provided opportunities to meet with community leaders, local entrepreneurs, and scientists; and to explore ocean states’ and community efforts to frame and respond to changes in their environment.

In just over a week’s time, Fellows will be reuniting in Suva, Fiji for their second of three in-person convenings. The program’s 16 fellows will come together to collaborate in workshops, visits and learn from local communities, hear about innovative research at the University of the South Pacific, meet with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, and participate in rich multi-sector panels with local entrepreneurs and scientists.
