It was a full house at 1938 Indochine for the ISC2 Hawaii and ISACA Hawaii Chapter Holiday Cybersecurity Mixer! Over 50 cybersecurity practitioners and enthusiasts turned out for a high energy evening filled with great food, drinks, and conversation.
Events like this focus on the basics: direct networking, relevant discussions, and time to connect with peers who are shaping cybersecurity across Hawaii.
We are deeply grateful to sponsors Palo Alto Networks and DK Tech Solutions for supporting the evening and helping make the final chapter event of the year a success. This would not have been possible to pull off without their generous support! Special thanks to Josh Gallardo, Kaipo Alakai, Maurice Nowell, Mike Taratko, Addie Lui, Tim Minick, Davin Yasuda, Walter Eccles, and everyone else behind the scene that contributed.
As we reflect on 2025, there is much to be proud of. We are "moving the needle" as we maintain alignment with our mission to educate, empower, embrace and engage the local cybersecurity community. In 2025 ISC2 Hawaii:
🎯Held 12 membership meetings, including data center field trips, hands-on labs, and high-profile guest speaker events.
🎯Presented 15+ times to kupuna on "staying safe online" (CyberGenerations program).
🎯Sponsored, supported, and/or participated in multiple conference events (C5 Cyber & IT Forum, INTERFACE Honolulu, BSides Hawaii).
🎯Enabled and supported multiple CyberPatriot CyberCamps for local schools.
🎯Recognized the value in networking and collaborating, holding the usual Summer and Holiday mixer events, and engineering social time in to each and every monthly membership meeting.
Looking forward to building on this momentum for 2026!

🌺 BSides Hawaii 2025 — Strengthening Our Cybersecurity Ohana
This past week, ISC2 Hawaii was proud to sponsor and participate in BSides Hawaii 2025, a cornerstone event for Hawaii’s cybersecurity community. The conference brought together security professionals, students, and technology leaders from across the islands to share insights, explore new ideas, and foster collaboration in strengthening Hawaii’s cyber resilience.
At our ISC2 Hawaii booth, we enjoyed connecting with attendees to share how our chapter supports professional growth through certification study groups, mentorship, outreach programs, and community events, all aimed at developing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals in Hawaii.
Mahalo to the BSides Hawaii organizers, volunteers, speakers, and sponsors for making this year’s event such a success. The sessions were engaging, the discussions were energizing, and the sense of community reminded us why we do what we do.
If you’re passionate about cybersecurity and want to get involved in Hawaii’s growing cyber community, we invite you to join us at our upcoming events and visit our website: https://isc2chapter-hi.org

ISC2 & ISACA Hawaii Present: WFH & Securing Remote Work
Summary:
The pandemic opened the door for a paradigm shift from in office to increased remote work. While this affords several benefits for organizations, it also presents a number of security challenges and risk. Many organizations have invested in improving their controls to support remote work, however, there is still a need to monitor and adjust as the threat landscape evolves.
Speaker:
David Doyle brings more than 30 years of experience establishing, scaling, assessing, and advising on cybersecurity and privacy programs. He has held corporate and thought leadership positions at companies, such as Apple, TikTok, Kaiser Permanente, Hawaiian Airlines, ASIS International, ISACA, and the Institute for Applied Network Security. In his role as Head of vCISO services David spearheads the growth and development of DirectDefense’s vCISO service offerings, while also serving as a principal consultant and trusted advisor to clients.
