Reflecting from a reading this morning:
“When you express your feelings honestly, it means that you respect and value yourself and the other person. Expressing your deepest feelings can in fact be a very cleansing experience, one in which the love and respect shared between the two people is strengthened . . . .
Expressing anger constructively will never damage a worthwhile relationship . . . . Anger is like a fire in a fireplace in a remote cabin during a blizzard. If the fire gets out of control it will destroy the occupants, either directly by burning them up, or indirectly by forcing them to flee and die of exposure in the blizzard. On the other hand, if the fire goes out, they will freeze even though they are in the cabin. The key, then, is adequate respect for and control of the fire.”
