We can sabotage the very things we want most because it feels like we’re leaving something behind—people, stories, and beliefs that once kept us safe. When we start noticing the old allegiances that control us, space opens for something new to emerge.

What did this mean when I painted it? I chose two flying creatures, one with connotations of darkness and mystery, the other with color and vibrancy. One upside down, the other upright. The background just grew from there. So there’s an obvious nod to duality, but there’s so much to read from there. I like it open for stories. And I’d never painted what before. 🦇
