Tierra Tile

I am getting ready to install this porcupine mosaic. It was fabricated using five different colors of granite. I cut as thin of strips that I could before the stone just turned to sand, varying from 1/16"-1/8". It was like a game of dominoes and operation combined while setting these slivers of tile. I will pre-grout it with a brown epoxy grout before installation as the field tile grout will be a different color.

These mosaics were made for a preschool playground in Anchorage Alaska. They sit on the face of three different concrete benches. This is a mixture of hand cut and traditional broken tile all fabricated and pre-mounted in my studio. The tile is DAL TILE's porcelain "Portfolio vivid" line. The concrete was prepped with Laticretes Hydroban crack isolation membrane. Mortar used was Laticrete 254 Platinum. Grouted with Laticrete Permacolor Select.
