VFW Auxiliary #9983

VFW Post 9983 and Auxiliary 9983 knocked it out of the park this weekend celebrating Americas 250th Anniversary!

Saturday 4 July started with Elma and Jaclyn hosting a “Buddy” Poppy Drive at Island Delight in Surf City. Elma has been passing out poppies for 25+ years and she draws them in to hear all about the history of the “Buddy” Poppy.

Jaclyn then headed to Sanctum 1791 for the benefit they hosted for VFW Post 9983. We hosted a “Buddy” Poppy and Membership drive. We gave out flags and flag etiquette fact sheets to the youth in attendance. We recruited 7 new members and invited several more back to the post to learn more. We ended the night with a fantastic fireworks display by Lejeune Motorsports.

Sunday, 5 July the Post hosted its annual 5th of July celebration in honor of Americas Anniversary. We had a Backyard BBQ with a pig pickin, hot dogs, hamburgers, all the sides, and desserts. Waterslides, water bounce house, corn hole and soccer kept the members and community members engaged. The Auxiliary hosted a “Buddy” Poppy and Membership drive…we recruited another 4 new members and 1 new post member. We sold 50 of the Post Raffle Tickets for the Department of NC VFW.
